Cavalry Cartridge Belt c1870 – 1875
This is a copy from a 1851 Sword or waist belt with 35 hand sewn cartridge loops for the 45-70 rounds it was wide spread in small garrisons on the frontier, though none regulation it was not uncommon for post saddlers to modify equipment in the field for men. The belt was probably the for-runner for the regulation 1876 Prairie belts made out of canvas and later the 1880 Mills Patent Cartridge Belt.
35 sew on loops on this leather belt with a brass NCO buckle.
